We were invited to join a group of senior couples for a fun weekend of Christmas market cruising. Clark & Shelley Davis, Carol & Brent Snow and Geri & Scott Conlin. We left late on Friday afternoon, December 20th and returned on Monday the 23rd. We packed a lot into a few days ... and lots of time in a not-so-comfortable eight-passenger van.
Ulm was our first stop. Even though Christmas markets were the target, we enjoyed touring the different towns to experience their unique character. Here you see a model of the Münster or church. A few of us climbed up to the top of the steeple, more than 700 steps. The view of the market below and the surrounding area was beautiful. Just as we were descending the clouds began blocking our view. They say this is the tallest steeple in the world.
Joanne climbed most of the way up to the top spire on the right.
Scott Conlin poked his head out on the way to the very top. Someone had to stay on the lower level to capture the picture, after all!
Hopefully, this movie of the belling ringing as I'm going down the stairs will post.
Gargoyles and more gargoyles ....
The churches have so much history and diversity. It's hard to capture their GRANDEUR.
The Big Dog with his big dog ... he was ready to chomp!
We went to church in Regensburg and really enjoyed their Christmas program. There is a military base nearby so there were lots of Americans. The hymns alternated between German and English and all the speakers had a translator. The violin solo was simply amazing.
After church we took the elders to lunch and then saw a little bit of the town before heading to Nuremberg.
The Danube River in Regensburg.
Bamberg was delightful with so many structures built right over the river.
We were so happy to find these yummy cinnamon spiral treats that Ward and Karen had told us about.
Scott and Geri Conlin, Carol and Brent Snow, Shelley and Clark Davis were fun to travel with.
A German take on the Nativity.
We pulled off the Autobahn to see the Upside-down house up close and personal on our way home.
