From Frankfurt, we drove to Saint-Imier, Switzerland. Joanne's fraternal great-grandmother, Pauline Emila Hardy, was born here on June 23, 1857. The following year her parents joined the Church and began plans to come to Salt Lake City. In 1860, her family sailed to the United States with a group of recent converts. The complete story is found in Family Search.
It was fascinating to learn about the watchmaking trade in Saint-Imier. We know that Pauline's father was a tailor by trade, but we thought that some of the family may have been watchmakers.
It was a cool experience to walk the same streets that Joanne's ancestors may have walked.
This little town is in western Switzerland near the France border ... notice the signage is in French rather than German.
The French pastries we found were quite delicious. Someone was anxious to get started.
We had reservations at patron housing twice hoping to attend the temple before the restrictions of the pandemic closed all the temples around the world.
The Swiss Temple is one of the oldest temples in Europe.
